Why visit Syros?

Syros is considered the elite of the Cyclades. A cosmopolitan island with nobility air, marvelous architecture and beautiful beaches.

Syros is the most crowded island of the Cyclades and in the past experienced impressive cultural and economic development. The capital and port is Ermoupolis, a beautiful, stately city, which similarly you will not find on any other island of Greece.

Its neoclassical buildings, imposing mansions and vibrancy will charm you along the way with its magnificent sandy coasts, traditional settlements, rich nature, local taverns and a strong Catholic element, which gives it a special character.

The island is ideal for peaceful holidays, but also for activities and entertainment in the bars, cafes and restaurants of Ermoupoli and the other villages. In addition, Syros is the place of origin of the famous Greek musician, Markos Vamvakaris.

Where to eat in Syros?

The food and local products of Syros are as much a part of the island’s legacy as the architecture of cosmopolitan Ermoupoli and the Catholic Cathedral of San Georgio.

Going down the streets of Ermoupoli you will meet the seaside taverns for seafood and you will discover the unknown to many people, Apano Meria, in the north, where the most famous cheeses of Syros are produced and where wild capers grow.

Kini village is worth more for its food than for its sea. So if you want to be rewarded with food go to Kini.

Ιn the delicatessen-grocery stores of Hermoupolis, where in addition to cheeses, cold meats and sweets such as “loukoumia” and “halvadopita” you will find many other local products in a jar, such as pastes and wild herbs for drinks – the perfect souvenir or the perfect gift to take with you when leaving Syros
